Local Buckling-Induced Forming Method to Produce Metal Bellows

Abstract A novel buckling-induced forming method is proposed to produce metal bellows. The tube billet firstly treated by local heating and cooling, the axial loading applied on both ends of tube, then buckling occurs at designated position forms a convolution. In this paper, apparatus designed developed discontinuous continuous bellows 304 stainless steel, their characteristics are discussed respectively. Furthermore, influences process parameters geometric final convolution profile deeply studied based FEM analysis. results suggest that steel fabricated presented have uniform shape no obvious reduction wall thickness. Meanwhile, force required in quite small.
